There is a genealogical chart (typescript) in the Dover Public Library by Nicholas Guppy of London, Eng., identifying Joshua Guppy's wife as "Sarah, an Abenaki Indian woman."
A descendant writes, "I was told long ago that after Joshua [Guppy, 1739-1806] married the 'Abnaki' woman, there was some kind of quarrel with her people ..."
In the 1840s, a granddaughter of Joshua is described by her co-worker as follows; "She had inherited Indian blood, and was proud of it. She had long, straight black hair, and walked very erect, with great freedom of movement."
