Notes

Joseph Moody is identified in Lowell, MA directories of the 1860s & 1870s as an "Indian Doctor". His practice is located next to that of Dr. Joseph Masta. He is found in the 1870 Census in Lowell identified as "Indian". He appears to be the son of Joseph & Hannah Moody of Brunswick, ME. However, his place of birth is listed as Canada and as New Brunswick and we have no evidence the potential parents were ever out of the county. We can document connections between the doctor and the Brunswick family, but can not verify the exact relationship. Family oral history says they are either Passamaquoddy or Mi'kmaq.
